Safekids New Zealand and Plunket urge parents to learn the new fire hazard labelling on children's garments before buying nightwear for their kids this winter. There are now three fire-risk labels for children's nightwear, as approved by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs:
Orange Label. This new label means that the garment is made of a higher fire risk fabric and is designed to be worn snug-fitting to reduce the risk of the garment catching fire. Make sure garments with the orange label fit children snugly.
White Label. This label means that the garment is a lower fire risk. It is either made of fabric that burns more slowly, or that the garment is close fitting. Buy children's night wear with the white label whenever possible.
Red Label. This label means that the garment is a higher fire risk. If you must use one, its better to use in summer than winter, as it is less likely to catch fire from a heater or fireplace. For more.....

Poppy Day, Friday 24 April

ANZAC Day (25 April) is observed in New Zealand as a day of commemoration for those who died in the service of their country and to honour returned servicemen and women.

25 April is the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. On the first anniversary of that landing services were held throughout the country in remembrance of the 2,721 New Zealand soldiers who died during the eight-month Gallipoli Campaign. Since 1916 ANZAC Day has evolved to the observance we know today

On Poppy Day RSA volunteers throughout New Zealand offer red poppy buttonholes in exchange for donations to the RSA Welfare Fund.
