Paying attention to all the details can be the difference between a job well done and a life changed by an avoidable injury.
A friend of mine recently needed some work done at his place. A tree needed to be removed as it was getting just a little too big for the house it was next to.
He called around, and located a friendly, local Arborist who could do the work.
The problem was, this particular Arborist doesn’t seem to have a grasp of even the basics of Health and Safety.
What you can’t see in this picture is the person who was supposed to be holding the ladder, but didn’t want to. And due to the ear protection (one good basic covered), the Arborist was unaware his support had been compromised.
New Zealand has far too many workplace injuries or deaths. We need to help each other; change the casual ‘she’ll be right mate’ attitude and pay more attention to the details.
It is not actually difficult to embed good Health and Safety practice in your business. And every business has a responsibility to do this. A responsibility to see that all Workers get home safely at the end of the day.
All About People teaches Health and Safety differently. We help with developing systems and processes for our clients. We help with the Operational ‘doing’ as well as with the theory. Do you need a hand? Let’s talk. Call us on 0800 023 789.
And if your people need attention with some Health and Safety refresher training to kickstart a good 2018, see our short workshops detailed here...
