FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Fire & emergency: what you need to know.
Knowing what your business needs to have in place isn't always straightforward. Here are some of the questions we're commonly asked about fire safety, emergency planning and preparing your people.
Do we need an evacuation scheme?
Whether your workplace needs an approved evacuation scheme depends on the nature and use of your building and the number of people who may be present. We can help you understand what applies to your business and, where required, develop and support your evacuation scheme.
Do we need fire wardens?
Fire wardens play an important role in helping people respond safely during an emergency. We can provide practical fire warden training to help your nominated people understand their roles and responsibilities.
How often should we practise an evacuation?
Regular evacuation drills, usually every six months, help your people become familiar with what to do and highlight any gaps in your procedures. We can help you plan and run trial evacuations, then use the results to identify improvements.
Can you help us develop an emergency plan?
Yes. We can help identify the emergencies relevant to your workplace and develop practical plans and procedures for responding to them.
Can you help with lockdown procedures?
Yes. We can help businesses and schools develop practical lockdown procedures and support you with drills and exercises to help your people understand what to do.
Can you help us test our emergency plans?
Yes. Drills and exercises are a useful way to test your plans in practice. We can facilitate trial evacuations, lockdown drills and other exercises, then provide practical feedback on what worked and what could be improved.
We already have emergency plans. Can you still help?
Absolutely. We can review your existing plans and procedures, identify gaps or areas that need updating, and help make them more practical and relevant to your current workplace.
